Vallay and Vallay Strand
The shallow waters of Vallay Strand, directly in front of the property, provide ideal conditions for windsurfing and kite-
At low tide, it is possible to walk out to the small, uninhabited island of Vallay, known for its colourful machair and white beaches. The remains of archaeologist Erskine Beveridge’s Victorian mansion, which once had 365 panes of glass and a different coloured fireplace in every room, can be seen.

Lochmaddy
Ten miles away in Lochmaddy are two hotels, Taigh Chearsabhagh arts centre and cafe (also incorporating a Post Office), a branch of the Bank of Scotland, a tourist information centre and a village shop.
Balranald
Encompassing machair, lochs, dunes and beaches, the Balranald Nature Reserve, just a few miles away, is popular with wildlife enthusiasts. As well as the wildflowers that carpet the machair in spring and summer, the area is rich with waders and is home to the elusive corncrake; eagles and otters are sometimes spotted.
Sites of historical interest
Dotted around the island are various sites of historical interest. Within easy reach of Struan House are Barpa Langass (a Neolothic burial chamber), Dun an Sticir (a ruined broch on an islet, accessible by narrow causeway), and Teampull na Trionaid (Trinity Temple, thought to date from the 13th century).
We stayed here en-
I'v got this address from my friend. And until now this is one of the best places in Scotland where I stayed from 2012. Great views, beautiful people and magical visitors from all over the world. North Uist is really great, I think my favourite from the Hebrides. Struan House is a place to be when you trying to find out all the beauty of this region
My parents and I enjoyed a lovely 1 night stay with Peggy during our Island Hopscotch tour.
Peggy was an excellent host and went out of her way to accommodate us. She got up very early to cook us a lovely full Scottish breakfast to ensure we caught our early morning ferry.
Thank you. Very highly recommended!
375 miles , over 5 days , stayed in some great places , this was one.
View to the west was spectacular at sunset, food was great, slept like a log
Owners very friendly, we were dog tired that night so didn't stray far from the house.
